In the garden of Versailles. How To
I made this image with a very difficult lighting. There was a soft rain, mix of rain and snow with a strong chilly wind.
I first did the basic adjustments in Lightroom, increasing the exposure and contrast as I had a dark and flat image to start with.
You can see the details in the following image. This brought back a lot od highlights and shadows details. There was a good structure on the statue, but I wanted to add somthing arount the statue. The best for this was to add a texture.
On the second image you can see the texture. I blended it using the overlay mode. That added a lot of dark tones and contrast. I removed the effect by masking it on the statue.
.I did the black and white conversion in Nik's Silver Efex Pro 2 using the neutral settings, and adjusted manually thebrightness, contrast and structure. I forced a lot on the contrast because I wanted to get the result i liked by reducing the layer opacity in Photoshop.
I added some sharpnedd and removed some noise. You normally do the noise reduction before anything else, but I like to do it after.
That gave the final image.
I hope you found this interesting, and please send me any comments if you want more details.
